An adult dark epic fantasy built around family drama. Five POVs in Book One, growing to six as the series unfolds. A romance line develops throughout. It sits between romantasy and grounded epic fantasy, with a fully developed, thought-out world.
Books One and Two form a single arc, with stakes internal to the family. Book Three widens to the city. Books Four and Five reach the kingdom and its politics.

Their father is dead. The fortress is overrun. And Rin finds her twin brother in a brothel with his fingers in some girl’s mouth.
So begins the Sonakh family's exile. Three siblings bound by a Blood Oath that means if one dies, they all do. The youngest, Darka, is Light-touched in a world that still treats her kind as livestock. The oath was supposed to protect her. Instead, it made her a leash around her brother's and sister's throats.
In the capital, they start over. They move into the shop of an artificer who won't let Darka touch him, calls her his nightmare to her face, and still makes coffee for her every morning. Rin discovers her mind can break people, and she likes it.
Someone in the city is draining the Light-touched of their blood in rituals no one has seen in centuries.
Darka thinks she'll become the greatest healer in the city. The blood on the stones says otherwise.

One sister wakes in the wrong body. The other wakes hunted.
Rin and Darka have been switched. Rin, who has spent her life being heard and respected, now wears the body the world wants to kill. Darka, who has spent her life being preyed upon, holds a mind that can break people open like a fruit.
Neither of them knows how to be the other. Neither of them has a choice.
The capital grows more dangerous by the day. Akim is forced to face the curse his father left behind, and what it is turning him into.
While Rin is trapped inside a body that will not obey her, Darka learns something she was never allowed to want. Affection. Closeness. A man who never let her touch him, and now reaches first.
The Blood Oath still holds. If one dies, they all do.
Someone is counting on it.
“Finally something different! I’m 100% invested in all the characters and their stories. I feel like I did not get enough and I need more answers. There must be a sequel ASAP!”
“I read for the characters and this book did not disappoint. The story was always moving, always progressing. Something was always happening beginning with chapter one. Cliffhanger ending that will be a great lead into the next book.”
“A dark fantasy that blends magic, grief, and complicated sibling relationships. The sibling dynamic is one of the most interesting parts of the story. Their relationship is rocky at times, which makes their bond feel realistic.”
“A refreshing change, with strong character-driven storytelling that quickly pulled me in. The magic system and bloodline connections are really interesting and full of potential. The cliffhanger ending left me wanting more.”
“If you love morally gray (okay morally unhinged) characters, slow-burn tension, and fantasy that actually makes you feel uncomfortable, this one’s going to own you.”
“This is truly a hidden gem. The family dynamics are well-played and very believable. The world building is unique, fleshed out, and internally consistent, especially the magic system. I look forward to the sequel.”
“The best thing about this book is the world. It’s different from most fantasy I read. Rin is the real standout. She’s not your typical strong female character. She has real flaws, and big ones, yet she carries herself with such confidence you can’t help but root for her.”
“An emotionally resonant, compelling story that lingers long after the final page. The sibling bond is written beautifully, layered with love, tension, and that quiet, unspoken understanding that only family holds.”
“So good and I was enthralled from the very first page!! I love the characters and the way they are written is amazing. I have so many questions that need answers. I need to know what happens next!!”
I’m Anka Kochet, a worldbuilder in both the literal and imaginary sense. I have carried several fantasy worlds with me for years, and now I’m finally ready to bring them to readers.
I’m originally from Russia, but I’ve lived in New York for fifteen years. The city is fast, sharp, impatient, full of people who rarely soften their edges, so yes, some of that probably found its way into my characters. They can be blunt, irritated, and impossible to please, but in my world, that is simply how people are.
Before books, I worked with structures in a more literal sense. I have a background in geotechnical and structural engineering, with years of experience in the field. That part of my life shaped how I build fictional worlds.
We began with a map, then built the system around it. The magic, hierarchy, institutions, countries, and history. From that world, the characters took shape, shaped by its pressure, its rules, its cruelty. They live by its logic, and they carry its weight.
They do not stop to explain their world to you, because people rarely explain the rules of the world they were born into. They simply live inside them.
The worldbuilding is layered, but at its heart, the story is character driven, because in any world, real or imagined, life is shaped by people.
